Passed away unexpectedly on February 23, 2018 at the age of 56. John is survived by his parents, Nicholas and Adeline, his wife Odarka, children Oriana, Andrew and Alexandra, sister Kathy Babij (Roman), niece Stephanie and nephew Paul. I am truly saddened to learn of Ivash's untimely passing. The "Horner" gang was a big part of my childhood and adolescence and John was always recognized as an intelligent and sensible person who was always helpful and kind to everyone who sat around him in Ukrainian school and the after hours activities of CYM. The Ukrainian community forged early friendships that developed over the years and time spent at camp or zabavas (dances) were always fun as John was a willing dance partner. My condolences to the entire family for the loss of such a fine individual. May the family recognize that he was respected and admired and what a legacy to cherish.

I have told John he was the kindest man I had ever met. He worked hard to find a doctor to save my sister’s life. When she passed, John reached out to the entire community to help her kids. As a Forum TV cameraman, I asked John for comments at a number of occasions — a CYM gathering, a Bay Street Ukies luncheon, etc. I always felt a positive vibe from him. I am in shock that such a young person is gone. My deepest sympathies to the family.
