Obituary

Andrij Babytsch passed away peacefully at Humber River Hospital on Wednesday May 16th, 2018 in his 97th year. He was predeceased by his wife of 50 years Anna (Semeniuk). Andrij was the loving father to Dr. Ihor Babytsch, Olga (Daniel Zadorozny), Aleksander ( Hedy Minton) and Walter. He was a doting grandfather to Andre Zadorozny, Julian Zadorozny ( Michelle Conte) , Mark Zadorozny, and Luke Babytsch. Born in Oxtyrka Ukraine, Andrij was the only son of Fedir and Hanna (Luhowa). He was predeceased by his sisters Olya and Vera. He will be missed by his longtime friend Halyna Novakiwska. At 20 years of age he was captured and held as a prisoner until the end of the Second World War. After surviving the war, Andre left Europe with his wife Anna and their two young children. They came to Canada to find a better life. They originally settled in Beardmore Ontario for a very short time where he worked in a gold mine. Later they moved to Toronto where he worked hard to support his growing family. Joy for him was to travel around Ontario and Eastern Canada painting scenes of Canada’s landscape. He was always eager about trying to grow as an artist – art was his true passion. Andrij exhibited his work in group shows and solo exhibitions in Canada and abroad. He was a past member of the Arts and Letters Club; Society of Canadian Artists; The Portrait Society of America and in 1999, at the Pastel Artist Society International Convention, he was named Master Pastellist and he was also showcased in the Pastel Artist International Magazine. Andrij was actively involved in the Ukrainian Canadian Community and he was a proud member and past President of YCOM – The Ukrainian Art Society of Canada.   Visitation will be on Monday, May 21st from 5pm to 9 pm with the Panakhyda at 7:00 pm at Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette Street.
