Obituary

Mike Dmytro Nazarewicz Passed away November 12, 2017.   Born December 12, 1917 in the town of Peremyshel’, Ukraine.   During WWII, Mike was captured and sent to a Siberian camp.  On his second attempt to escape, he was successful and made his way through the Middle East and rejoined the British army in Italy.  He became a Sargent Major in the Polish division of the British Army, fighting in the Battle of Monte Cassino.  During his time in the army, he sustained two gun shots to his leg and shrapnel wounds.  Mike was awarded with the 1939-45 medal, the 1939-45 star, defence medal, Italy star, Polish service medal, Polish cross of valour, and the cross of Monte Cassino.   He worked and lived for his family.  He was most happy with family and during full gatherings at the holidays.   May he now Rest In Peace and join his predeceased wife Franciska and son Walter. He is survived by his son Roman (Irene), widow of the late son Walter - Wendy, grandchildren Raisa (Daniel), Andrij, and Michael (Nicole), Alex, Chris, and great-grandchildren Emma and Derek.   A special thank you to the nurses, PSWs, doctors, staff, and administration at Vermont Square LTC home who have hearts of gold and endless compassion and understanding. Visitation at Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette Street, Toronto on  Wednesday,  November 15th  from 5:30 pm to 8pm with the Panakhyda at 7:30 pm.   Funeral Mass to be held on Thursday, November 16th  at 10 am at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God, 30 Leeds Street, Toronto.  Burial to follow at St. Volodymyr Cemetery, Oakville.
