Obituary

Kateryna was born on January 14, 1937, in village Vysochany, Ukraine to Anton and Anastasia Yacyla. As the youngest of 4, her earliest years were happy. After the war, the boundaries of Europe were redrawn and her village became part of Poland. Consequently in 1947, under the Polish government’s program "Aktsia Wisła ", Kateryna's family was deported along with hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians to the northwestern part of Poland. Kateryna arrived in Canada in 1962 and married Ivan Ceniuch in 1963. From the very beginning, Kateryna actively participated in the public life of the Ukrainian community. Amongst her organizations were CYM, UCC, the League of Ukrainian Women of Canada -Toronto Division, her church parish. Infinitely dedicated to Ukrainian causes, she worked tirelessly for the benefit of the Ukrainian community. Hard-working, kind, generous, energetic, patriotic. We did not just lose an aunt. We lost part of the fabric that held both our family and the community together. She is irreplaceable and will be missed by: Her sister Anna Lypka with children and grandchildren, children and grandchildren of recently departed sister Parania Sozanski, Sister-in-Law Hania Jacyla with children and grandchildren, her cousin Johnny Jacyla, her nieces Halia Chumylo, Stecko family, Kravchuk family, Domagalski/Tymkewycz family, her friends, colleagues, parishioners, neighbours and the whole Ukrainian community. Vichnaya Pamiat. May She rest in Peace.
