Obituary

Maria was born December 6th, 1932 in Zborova, Ukraine.  She was the youngest daughter of Andrij and Paraskevija Uchansky.  Her sister Stefania and brother Mychajlo both lived in Poland but are now deceased.  When Maria’s mother became ill,  she cared for her until her passing in 1955, after which Maria moved to Poland to be with her sister.  In 1962 she came to Canada on a visit and wanted to remain.  She met Mychajlo Tychij and they were married until he unexpectedly died in 1982.  Shortly after she met Peter Cherednyk and found love again and in 1984 they were married and enjoyed each others company and many common interests.  Maria loved to be in her garden with her flowers, tomatoes and berries – her harvest was always bountiful and beautiful.  Peter and Maria enjoyed nature and the outdoors.  It was to them like a second home.  They liked to take long walks and frequently went mushroom picking and fishing.  All you had to say was "are we going fishing?” and she was ready and waiting by the door to go with her fishing rod.  Peter and Maria were parishioners of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church.  Her kindness, gentleness and compassion for people was always evident in her smile.  Maria suffered a serious stroke in November 2012 which left her partially paralyzed.  On March 15, 2018 Maria peacefully went to be with the Lord.   She leaves behind her husband Peter and many dear friends.  May her memory be eternal.  If desired, memorial donations in Maria's memory can be made to the St. Joseph's Health Centre - Stroke and Cardiac Care, 30 The Queensway, Toronto, Ontario, M6R 1B5.

Dear Family and friends, We were very sorry to hear of pani Marusia's passing. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. Pani Marusia worked for my mother A. Kowalsky then for me for many years. She was a kind and gracious person and was sorely missed when she decided to retire. However we were happy that she had found a loving person with whom to share her interests and activities. She will be fondly remembered in our thoughts and our prayers. Vichnaia yi pamiat.
