Obituary

Antonio Santos passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 27, 2018 surrounded by his family at Toronto Western Hospital after a very long illness.
Antonio is survived by his loving wife Lucia, children Fatima (Thomas), John (Sonia), Vicky (Corey) and five grandchildren, Ainslie, Andrew, Nathan, Maya and Reed.
Antonio was born to Maria de Lourdes and Joao de Sousa Santos on July 30, 1933 in the town of Cinco Ribeiras in the island of Terceira, Azores. He was the youngest of two sons.
Antonio was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved to sing, listen to music, travel and watch soccer. The traditions that were part of his Portuguese heritage such as music, food, religious festivals and bullfights were ingrained in his heart. He was the President of the Holy Spirit Festival at St. Helen"s church in Toronto for many years.
Antonio had a wonderful tenor voice and sang in various choirs. He loved to socialize with friends and family.
At the age of 40 he immigrated to Canada with his wife and three children. It was a huge cultural shock but with time he embraced his new home and even made sure to take his Canadian citizenship while we were still minors. He was very proud to be Canadian and told us he came to Canada to  give us a better life. Thank you dad for this wonderful gift.
A special thank you to all the medical team at Toronto Western Hospital and PSW"s who attended to him on a daily basis.
We will miss you so much daddy. Until we meet again you will be forever in our hearts!
In lieu of flowers donations are welcome to either the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke or CAMH.
